Elephant In the Classroom is a course being offered by the Kansas City Zoo and will focus on connecting 2nd grade Science, Literacy and Math objectives through Life Science education.

The course will take place June 30 through July 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kansas City Zoo in the Zoo Learning Center. Instructors will be Debra Ryder, M.S. and Sara Pittman, M.S. both of the Kansas City Zoo Education Department.

Kids love animal and are fascinated by them! This course will provide teachers an excellent opportunity to explore ways to incorporate Life Science education into the classroom through various Science, Math and Literacy activities. Through project-based learning, tours, behind-the-scenes with zookeepers, group activities and discussions, teachers will learn how Science, Math and Language Arts apply to the careers needed to manage a captive animal population.

All educators are welcome but activities focus on 2nd grade Science, Literacy and Math.

The course is $150 per registrant. You can also receive UMKC Graduate Credit (2 credits) with completion of the UMKC registration form and an additional $200 billed by UMKC.
